The baboon ate my driver's license

Victoria Falls from the Zimbabwean side

I can't believe it's over a month since I last posted in my blog! So much has happened! We went on a family visit cum holiday to Southern Africa. We spent 12 days in this most beautiful and amazing place, and it looked like a lifetime. From breath taking Victoria Falls to the windy beach of East London, from energetic and bustling J'oburg to the quiet wild life kingdom of the Kruger Park - Southern Africa is a magical place.

Victoria Falls from the Zambian side

To say that Victoria Falls is beautiful is a gross understatement. This is an awe inspiring, unbelievable world wonder. To see the rainbow on top of the roaring waters is almost a religious experience. The area around he falls, especially in Zambia (the falls are located on the Zambezi river, between Zambia and Zimbabwe) is quiet and peaceful, a true natural heaven,
teaming with wild life. It's very common to meet a giraffe or an elephant while walking around, or having a monkey grab your food. So it was not a surprise to meet a big baboon while walking to the hotel on our last morning in Zambia. It was very surprising though when the baboon grabbed my handbag and jumped with it down the ravine! Needless to say I was in a shock. The bag had all my credit cards, my glasses, a wallet with money and driver's license and worst of all -my iPhone! (all those wonderful pictures of the falls...). I also had a bag of sweets, which the baboon peeled and ate... Thanks to Felix and his friends, Zambian guys who were brave enough to go down the gorge, I got back my handbag but my wallet was missing, with my license. A true African experience.

That's the baboon's cousin from the Kruger Park

White water rafting on the Zambezi

The Zambezi river is a great place for white water rafting. To be able to go you have to be a competent swimmer and really need to be quite mad!
I didn't go of course, but my son and husband did. This is one moment when they were not upside down in the river...

We came back home a week before the High Holidays - Jewish New Year, which means straight into the kitchen (honey cake, chicken in apples and honey, sweet carrots, pomegranates, and many more sweet dishes to have a sweet new year). I would like to wish you all Shana Tove u'Metuka - A Sweet and Good Year!

And since it's a quilting blog, I'll share with you my latest work - a small piece which I made for our friends in South Africa

The applique is the Hebrew word Shalom - Peace in Hebrew, what we wish for ourselves and everyone for the New Year!

Wishing everyone a Happy New Year, Health, Success and Peace!
And lots of beautiful creative quilts!
