Celebration and Echo giveaway!

Echo by Lotta Jansdotter

I can't believe it's a year since I started blogging! Not long after I started quilting, I decided to join this amazing community of quilters. Being part of this wonderful group of talented and creative people is the best part of blogging. It also gave me some sense of structure and deadline (WIP Wednesday! Thank you Lee!).
Most of all I love your comments. Getting feedback is so great! I can't over estimate it. Thank you so much for your kind words of encouragement, advice and support.

Taking stock of the last year I realize that I was not as productive as I would like, but I'm very proud of each one of my works, including my last quilt top - the kaleidoscope quilt, and it all made me very happy.

I want to thank you for following my blog, reading and commenting, so I decided on a small giveaway. These are fabrics I bought lately, I really love them, and I want to share them with you.
I'm giving 6 fat quarters of Echo by Lotta Jansdotter, these are beautiful fabrics with great design.

This is a friendship giveaway, for my followers. You can join by clicking "join this site" on the right.

  • To enter the giveaway leave a comment (if you are a new follower, tell me) and tell me something happy that happened to you this winter (or summer - for you in the South).

Kaleidoscope quilt top - finished

This quilt took much longer than I thought. I meant to start it at June 2011 as part of Elizabeth's Kaleidoscope QAL, but started only in January 2012, more than 3 months ago... Sure, I have lots of excuses (travel, family, life) but the real reason for the delay is that I wasn't happy with the results and really got stuck. The quilt top was OK, but I could not get excited with it, which made it very hard to work on it. I kept making more blocks, added some red to make it less drab, but still was not happy. The breakthrough came when I changed the placement of the blocks to get diagonal lines of red, blue and green, which gave the quilt more movement.

This pattern was a real challenge for me. Using templates is very time consuming, and I didn't realize how hard it is matching all the points (of course most of the points don't match, but at this point I gave up)

Each block is 10.5 inch (26.5 cm) final size. The top measures 64x76 inch (163x193cm).

Now that the top is finished I have decide about quilting. I'm debating whether to quilt circles to echo the kaleidoscope circles. It looks too hard for me and I hardly did any FMQ.
I'd love to get your suggestions for quilting!

WIP - Kaleidoscope quilt #3

I finished almost all 42 blocks, but I'm still debating with myself about final placement. The quilt is too large for my design wall, so I have to work on the floor. I find it quite difficult seeing the whole picture (have to stand on a chair), so it takes much longer.

Here's a sample of 16 blocks, still on the wall. Hope to finish this quilt soon!

WIP Wednesday - Kaleidoscope quilt #2

Work on the kaleidoscope quilt goes quite slowly, by at last I can see some progress, and the pile of blocks is starting to look like something.

I really struggled with this quilt, and I was not happy with any arrangement. It took me some time to find out what needs to be done (more contrast), and now I really like what I see on my design wall. Of course, it's only 12 blocks out of 42, but I think the work is on it's right way.

I used many of my favorites fabrics, so many it's almost a scrap quilt.
