A basket case

Summer. Blazing sun, hot and humid. Time for small projects. My great teacher Marganit showed us how to make this cute basket, and I whipped it in a day


It's so rewarding to be able to start and finish a project in a day or two. Usually I spend weeks on one quilt. It's really great to see results so quickly, gives you a boost and energy to start another project. Maybe some more baskets - different sizes and shapes?



This basket is for my lovely daughter-in-law Y. It measures 12x6 inches.
The pictures were taken in my balcony at 08:30 in the morning. Look how sunny it is, already 30 degrees (86). Like I said, time for small projects, light books and cold icy drinks in the shade.

I was featured!

I'm so honored and thrilled! Beth of Smazoochie wrote about my quilt Homage to Mondrian in her post "I LOVE these quilts!". Beth chose few quilts inspired by painters, and she reviews them very cleverly and with deep perceptive. I love the other two quilts. You can see them in this very interesting post here.



This quilt is only my second work. I was a new quilter and blogger. I was overwhelmed with the kind of attention this quilt got. I love art, I love modern art and abstract art and you can see that I love Mondrian. This quilt is now hanging in my son's living room and I'm so proud that he loves it at well.

WIP Wednesday

It's been so long since I posted WIP Wednesday! (June 21 was my last post). I had lots of work but no progress... (ha ha)

At long last I finished the Pretty in Pink quilt. I'm very happy with the result. All I need is to applique baby G.'s name on the back.


I'm working now on a new baby quilt, for baby E., my 3 weeks old lovely grandson. No more pink for now, back to blue/green/yellow and the rest of the color wheel. BTW, who says pink is for girls only? What do think? Would you make a pink quilt for a boy, or dress him in pink?


Enough with gender sociology. I'm trying something new - paper piecing. I'm working with a pattern from Glorious Patchwork by Kaffe Fasset the quilt on the cover. Somehow the instruction are for paper piecing, and I decided to try and master this technique with the help of my great teacher Margot. Well, I discovered I really don't like it. So time consuming! Maybe it's good for other shapes like points and curves, but for this log cabin I'd rather use simple piecing. Do you have a more positive experience with PP? I'd love to hear.


This is the first block I finished. It took me more than 3 hours! At this rate I'll finish this quilt when baby E. will be in school. I don't even like this block, I think the yellow at the end is not great. Well, hope to show some serious progress next week, paper piecing or not.

Pretty in Pink - Finished!

At last i finished Pretty in Pink, it's quilted and binded, I only need to applique the label with the name at the back. Baby G. is already 2 months old, and she has a new cousin, baby E. who is also waiting for a quilt, so it's time I continue working!




This quilt is made of my pink stash, some "it's a Hoot" for Moda, and some Ann Kelle for Robert Kaufman. Some of the fabrics are from my collection.




The backing is a sheet from Ikea. I bought few of their children's sheets, they have lovely prints, wash very well, and are very soft and easy to work with.


For the binding is I used one of the pink striped fabrics from the quilt.


The quilt is 91 x 93 cm, 36 x 37 inch. I quilted it minimally - straight lines through the colored squares.


It's very girly, and I'm very happy with the result. This is the first girly quilt I ever made!
